Next week we will begin our literature study of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. I am so excited to read this with you because it is my absolute most favorite book ever!
To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in the South during 1930s and involves two significant periods of time in United States history: The Great Depression and The Jim Crow Era. Understanding these two eras is critical to understanding the characters and events in the story. Since I'm guessing none of you were alive in 1930s, I've posted some videos below on The Great Depression and The Jim Crow Era to help you begin to get a sense of what was happening during this time.
Watch ALL the videos below and take notes on dates, events, facts, and images that you think are important in understanding the time period. Be prepared to discuss your observations/notes in class.
